Breastfeeding the Best Choice for Mother and Baby There have never been more breast feeding clothes, breast feeding accessories and nursing bras available than there are today. With breast feeding clothes to suit every size and shape of woman it makes the breast feeding problem of nursing in public a lot more discreet. The benefit breast feeding has to offer makes nursing the best choice for both mother and baby.
Correct fitting breast feeding clothes combined with a good support system and good breast feeding accessories are a wonderful way to help avoid any breast feeding problem that may occur, so that mother and baby may experience the benefit breast feeding gives.
Some of the benefits breast feeding offers are:
- higher IQ,
- fewer ear infections and fewer allergies in breast fed babies;
- financial savings;
- protects against cancer and multiple sclerosis;
- mother loses baby weight more quickly;
- convenience;
- less expensive,
- enhanced bonding experience between mother and baby;
- and baby is less likely to die of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).
Understanding the benefit breast feeding has to offer makes any breast feeding problem well worth the effort. With that said it can at times be a bit uncomfortable for new nursing mothers while breast feeding in public. One way to ensure discreet breast feeding in public is to have the right breast feeding clothes. In the United States a woman is free to nurse on federal property (parks, etc.) where she and child are permitted access. Unfortunately there will be public places where a woman may not feel comfortable to nurse (restaurants and shopping centers). Discreet breast feeding in public really just takes a bit of practice. It’s a good idea to always have a baby blanket or receiving blanket for cover, and of course good fitting nursing bras and breast feeding clothes.
Basic Essentials To start, a nursing mother will want to have a few essential breast feeding clothes to include a few tops available with flaps and different openings in front (for discreet nursing), with long sleeves and short sleeves. Good fitting breast feeding clothes helps combat the breast feeding problem of breast feeding in public and with the benefit breast feeding offers this is easily remedied. Once a mother starts nursing she can add to her collection of breast feeding clothes depending on what she needs with options to include; nursing tops in short, three quarter, long and sleeveless options; nursing dresses; swim wear; yoga style tops with built in bras; plus sized nursing wear; camisoles and of course nursing bras.
Nursing Bras Along with properly fitted breast feeding clothes a woman will want to benefit breast feeding experience by having good fitting nursing bras. Nursing bras that fit properly can eliminate the breast feeding problem of blocked ducts, mastitis and breast engorgement. Nursing bras are available in a range of different styles, colors and types to accommodate any size of breast feeding mother. Nursing bras can be found with under wire or no under wire both offering advantages and disadvantages. While under wire bras may offer more support they can often put pressure on breasts leading to blocked ducts, mastitis and breast engorgement. Nursing bras with no under wire may not offer as much support but will be more comfortable (especially if bra is worn at night). There are nursing bras that have flaps that can be detached without taking off bra to ensure discreet and convenient nursing.
Breast Pumps When it comes to breast feeding there is certainly a lot to learn with what breast feeding clothes to wear, breast feeding problem, benefit breast feeding offers and what sort of breast feeding accessories are helpful. The breast pump is probably one of the most useful accessories a nursing mother and father can have. If mom needs to be away from baby for more than a few hours the breast pump can be used to have a supply of breast milk available for dad or caregiver (especially great for mothers who are going back to work). Breast pumps are also helpful at relieving engorgement or symptoms of mastitis. Breast pumps are available in hand pumps, battery operated and small to large pumps.
Breast feeding will be a journey for both mother and father with the benefit breast feeding has to offer outweighing the breast feeding problem that can occur. Knowing beforehand what breast feeding clothes, nursing bras, breast pumps and breast feeding accessories are available will be sure to help a nursing couple on their way. Of course as a mother feels more comfortable and gets into a bit of a nursing routine she will know what works and what doesn’t work for her. One thing is for certain and that is the benefit breast feeding offers both a mother and child with factors such as fewer allergies, fewer ear infections, higher IQ, financial savings, convenience and most of all the wonderful bonding experience for both mother and child.
